What I Thought Was True / Huntley Fitzpatrick / 409 pages

This YA book deals with the circle of life in the somewhat closed setting of Sea Shell Island.  Obvious class lines exist here, lines demarking rich from poor, summer folk from year round, and young from old.  Gwen Castle has secured a job as companion to an elderly woman whose Book Club enjoys steamy romances.  They refuse to be slaves to age and time.  Gwen, herself, has to battle her own reputations as a loose woman and her unique assortment of family.  When she falls in love with the wealthy yard boy, Cass, they realize that although those lines appear to be etched in stone, they can be crossed.
