My Hero Academia Volume 2 - Rage, You D**n Nerd / Kohei Horikoshi / 208 pages

After Midoriya's class, Class 1-A, goes through one or two lessons, they begin an activity not unlike "Capture the Flag", where they are split into ten teams of two at random, and two of each team has to play as "heroes" and "villains" (like, Team A-- Midoriya and his new friend Ochaco Uraraka-- is the "Hero" team, while Team D-- Midoriya's other friend Tenya Iida and rival/childhood "friend" Katsuki Bakugo—is the "Villain" team).  This is to exercise each student's ability to face off villains using their Quirks, or even stepping in the shoes of a villain to know them better for future reference.  Most of the students cooperate with each other as team members and team rivals... except for Bakugo, who only uses this activity as an opportunity to take his anger out on Midoriya by attacking him head-on (but with Midoriya’s new Quirk, that doesn’t go well for him!).
Later on, the class goes on a field trip only to be ambushed by a  gang of villains calling themselves "The League of Villains."  The kids and two teachers get separated all over the place and have to fight whichever villains are closest to them.  Only Iida escapes, and he reports to All Might (who is teaching at U.A.) and the other U.A. teachers what's happening with the class.

Sorry, I forgot to do a review on the last volume, so I'll tie it in with this one too:
Both books were really refreshing considering I have yet to re-watch the anime episodes.  I notice that they, unlike the anime, were a lot faster paced than I had remembered, but that was okay (for me, at least).  They were also both humorous and optimistic while still having plenty of action and even suspense.  The short bios and trivia Horikoshi gives of a character at the end of each chapter are interesting to read-- one would get to hear of his insights and development of them.

I'm aware that this series is not for everyone, but if I could recommend it to anyone anyway, I would.

Second Time Around / Mary Higgins Clark 373 p.

Nicholas Spencer disappears when his small plane crashes.  Since pieces of his shirt are found it is presumed that he is dead.  People are shocked.  He eluded such personal magnetism, charm, good well as well as a strong sense of ethics and determination.  In the messy aftermath, huge sums of money is gone--with him it is commonly believed just as it looks like the FDA will not be approving his anti-cancer vaccine. Marcia "Carley" DeCarlo is assigned the story.  Being the step-sister to Nicholas's wife, gives her access to the family, and Lynn, Nicholas's second wife, asks Carley to investigate.  Then comes the sighting of Nicholas in Europe so he did fake his death and steal the company funds?  Carley is digging and digging and finding out so much that it is difficult to decide just who is telling the truth and exactly what has happened.  Fallout from the mess has pushed a psychotic over the edge, as this story unfolds with multiple twists and turns as only Clark can do so well.

The Lost Key/Catherine Coulter & J.T. Ellison/450 pgs.

FBI agents Nicholas Drummond and Michaela "Mike" Caine are called in to investigate the murder of naval historian and antiquities dealer, John Pearce. There is more to John Pearce than meets the eye. He is also known as "The Messenger" in an international secret society. His final words are "The key is in the lock" which sets the hunt into motion. The novel is fast paced, and action packed. This is the second book in the "A Brit in the FBI" series. I like how the main characters in the series are developing. I think it's a good collaboration between Coulter and Ellison. Recommended.

Call Me Irresistible / Susan Elizabeth Phillips 387 p.

Returning characters from Phillips previous works (Glitter Baby, Fancy Pants, and First Lady) delight the reader. The aimless Meg Koranda, daughter of Hollywood legends, breaks up the marriage between Ted Beaudine, and Lucy Jorik, daughter of first woman president. Everyone in Wynette, Tex., loves Ted and they defend their favorite son. Meg’s parents show tough love to get her to make something of herself so they cut her off and she finds herself without funds, living in a Rustmobile, and owing a chunk for her hotel room. Stranded, Meg becomes the town’s pariah and forced to accept a menial job cleaning toilets to pay off her hotel room—probably her first. Meg, honest, outspoken, and reckless, finds herself in the center of a campaign to get a multimillionaire to invest in an environmentally green golf course that is needed to boost the town’s shaky economy. This tosses her into contact with both Ted, the billionaire, his daughter, and the quirky townspeople. Her wit and her famous pedigree get the multimillionaire pursing her. To give herself an out with the multimillionaire she declares her love for Ted. So she fakes a romantic interest in Ted. Meg’s path to acceptance is rocky indeed. Phillip’s works demonstrate her gift for witty dialogue and intriguing characters. A bestseller from a RITA winner. Phillips says that Lucy Jorik deserves her happy ending and is hard at work on her story.
