Harry Bosch makes his fifth appearance as a very individualist LAPD homicide detective. When the clearance rate for murders drops drastically, Harry is called back to the homicide table when Hollywood movie producer is murdered gangland style in the trunk of his white Rolls-Royce. Uncharacteristically, the organized crime unit is not interested in the case, leaving Harry and his team to follow the money to Las Vegas. This police procedural takes twist after twist in the plot.
