This is the concluding novel of the Giver Quartet. Reflecting back to The Giver, Claire bridges the gap from the first novel to this last one. Claire is the Birthmother to Gabe; unlike the other Birthmothers, Claire, inadvertently, wasn't given the pills to take that would suppress any maternal feelings she would have towards her son. Without giving too much away, Claire goes in search of her son, and encounters extremely harsh obstacles along the way. In the course of finding Gabe, Claire must make some very difficult moral and ethical decisions. It's a satisfying conclusion to a thought provoking series. Recommended.
