Messenger/Lois Lowry/187 pgs.

For six years, Matty has lived in Village, and has become like a son to Kira's father, a blind man known as Seer. Village has always been welcoming to the displaced and "flawed" members of society. But now Village is changing: the residents no longer want newcomers entering their ranks. They have gone from being a selfless community to a selfish one. The residents take a vote to construct a fence around Village in order to secure its borders.  Matty is the only one who has been able to cross Forest to take messages to people in the outlying communities. However, Forest, too, is changing. The question becomes will Matty be able to get to Kira in time to bring her back to Village before the borders are closed? It's a wonderful addition, and the third part to Lowry's Giver quartet.
