Hunting Shadows / Charles Todd and Simon Prebble / 330 pages / Twentieth Century Historical Fiction March Challenge

Ian Rutledge series
Ian Rutledge of Scotland Yard is called to investigate two murders.  A lawyer running for public office and a former soldier were killed by an sniper.  Although there were many people present at both murders, there are few, if any, witnesses.  Rutledge has to dig deeply and make seemingly irrelevant connections to make his man.  At times, I thought the story dragged, but perhaps this was to mimic real life.  Throughout the story there are numerous references to World War I and descriptions of the horrors wrought by this war upon the common soldier.
