Summer House with a Swimming Pool / Herman Koch / 387 pages / 8 Maids a Milking December Challenge

This book is about "the differences between men and women.  The irreconcilable differences.  The differences you can never explain."  These differences baffle our protagonist, Dr. Marc Schlosser.  Dr. Schlosser is a general practitioner in Holland whose patient, internationally known star, Ralph Meier has recently passed on.  Marc is accused of malpractice by Judith, the wife of the deceased.  The story then flashbacks to a summer vacation gone horribly wrong with repercussions that are life altering, irreparable, and catastrophic.  Although I found the beginning a bit slow, from the middle to the end the book was intensely gripping.
