The Monstrumologist / Richard Yancey / 454 pages.
Will Henry is a mere boy of 13 who has been taken in by Fellinore Warthrop after his
father and mother have been killed in a fire . Dr.
Warthrop just happens to be a Monstrumologist: the study and pursuit of
monsters. Will Henry soon finds himself not only doing household chores and
taking care of the Dr., but becoming indispensable in the Monstrumologist’s procurement
of beasties. Will Henry odysseys are an evolution not only one of self-discovery,
but a question of who are the real monsters in this world. The 4 book serial takes place mainly in the late
1800’s. Many real life characters are introduced throughout the novels, such as
Sir Author Conan Doyle. Although not a Great Fan of Young Adult fiction in
general, I found the series to be quite suited for adult reading. Some of the themes
in these books are quite dark interspersed with queasy occurrences with humour. The Monstrumologist is the first book in the series
