And Only to Deceive / Tasha Alexander / 310 pages

This historical suspense novel set in Victorian England, and Paris, and Africa is absolutely mesmerizing.  It comes close to being labeled a romance but rises above the genre by focusing on atmosphere, psychology, ancient Greece, well-known artists and their works, and the indomitable heroine's determination to delve into the character of her late husband.  Frequent plot twists keep the reader guessing to the very end.
