Keep Quiet / Lisa Scottoline / 338 pages / Scary Story Oct.-Nov. Challenge

What an intriguing, cautionary, true to life story!  In an attempt to foster a relationship with his teenage son, Ryan, Jake Buckman allows him to drive on a learner's permit on a deserted road even though his learner's permit disallows it.  The repercussions are enormous!  Attempting to spare his son dire consequences, Jake chosses stealth and cover up which escalate and shatter his family.  Complications and twists to the already strong plot grip the reader in a strangle hold until the very last page.  Unfortunately, I saw the end coming, and felt comforted, rather than shortchanged, by it.
