The Weight of Blood/Laura McHugh/306 pages

"The Weight of Blood" is a debut novel for this author.  Lucy Dane is a teen who has always lived in the tiny town of Henbane.  A childhood friend disappears and later turns up murdered and dismembered.  Lucy's mother also vanished at approximately the same age as Lucy's friend and Lucy thinks there may be a connection between the two.  Generations of secrets are revealed and Lucy doesn't know who to trust.  The author's description of the Ozarks setting is how I've imagined.  She also does a good job of interweaving the stories of Lucy and her mother.  I can't say that I was too surprised by the ending but I did enjoy the book.
