Finders Keepers / Stephen King / Scary Story, October Challenge

"Money from nowhere almost always spells trouble."  It certainly brings trouble to young Pete Saubers.  On the banks of a creek bed behind his house, Pete uncovers the ill-gotten gains of a murder/robbery.  The twenty thousand dollars in cash saves his family and his parents' marriage.  The manuscripts that accompanied the money result in additional murder.  This is Stephen King at his best.  We have reprises from several characters from Mr. Mercedes, and an ending suggestive of yet another book in which they will star.

"Literature shapes life - for good, for bad, forever."
"A good novelist realizes he is a secretary, not God."
"Most of us become everyone."
"Literature was eternal."
