Renegade / Antony John / 294 pages

"History showed that people with unexplained abilities don't get treated well by others."  Because of this the Elementals had made a pact not to use their powers when refugees came to Roanoke Island, but tensions developed as they inevitably would and an irreparable schism developed.  Whether it could ever be healed given the constraints of human nature was debatable.  In this third book in the Elemental Trilogy, Mr. John has once again crafted a mind-boggling adventure story, peoples it with pirates, children with magical powers, and humanity struggling to cope with plague, catastrophe, and the duplicity of human beings.  Although this book ends the trilogy, the open-ended conclusion teases with a promise that perhaps Mr. John has not yet abandoned the Elementals.

"What was the point of freedom when it left you with so little."

"Life is too precious to waste."

"Seeing the future is less important than observing the present or remembering the past."
