Every Last One / Anna Quindlen / 299 pgs

"Mary Beth Latham is first and foremost a mother, whose three teen aged children come first, before her career as a landscape gardener, or even her life as the wife of a doctor. Caring for her family and preserving their everyday life is paramount. And so, when one of her sons, Max, becomes depressed, Mary Beth becomes focused on him, and is blindsided by a shocking act of violence." -From Catalog

The book moves along at a plodding pace.  It starts with the description of Mary Beth's perfect life as a mother of three, wife of a Doctor, and successful business owner.  After her life comes to a screeching halt due to an unexpected turn of events, the rest of the book details her putting the pieces back together.

Anna Quindlen has a way with describing the mundane details of day-to-day life that make them almost sound poetic.  If you are looking for a leisurely paced book that leads the reader to reflect on life then this would be a good pick.
