Lock In / John Scalzi / 337 p.

I found this title on several recommended lists and found the description intriguing.

John Scalzi has found a wonderfully imaginative way to create a new "race" of people--robot bodies controlled by human minds. These individuals are named "Hadens" for the disease that has led to their creation. That of course makes this "science fiction." But it is also a great mystery.

New FBI Agent Chris Shane is a Haden who has been partnered with a veteran, and somewhat jaded, female agent by the name of Vann. Both characters are engaging and well written. And there are a couple of little twists that deal with Chris's identity. It is a fairly quick read and appropriate for older teens--it received an ALA Alex Award.

My first thought upon finishing the book was that it would be prefect as the beginning of a series.  I was pleased to subsequently find out that it will indeed be a series.
