Psychologist Alex Delaware has a "hit" put out on him. His testimony helped a mother, Cherie Sykes, retain custody of her child, but the child's aunt, Dr. Connie Sykes, doesn't agree with that decision--thus the "hit" put on Alex's life. This fails, but then Dr. Sykes turns up dead. Suspicion is cast upon Cherie, especially since she goes missing shortly after the murder of her sister. Alex isn't convinced of Cherie's guilt, and tries to help his friend, Detective Milo Sturgis, solve the case. It's a fast paced, and enjoyable read.
