The Living / Matt de la Pena / 311 pages / April Challenge Rain

Wow!  What an adventure!  This book has it all...luxury ocean cruises, suicide leap, earthquake, tsunami, pandemic, shipwreck, evil scientists, young love, Hispanic hero, spoiler/snarky/wealthy white girl, rejected lover with seven carat diamond, sharks...  Young Shy takes a summer job with a cruise line to earn some money to help his mom pay the bills.  His grandmother, who used to pay half, just died of the dreaded Romero disease.  When he witnesses a suicide leap and is the last person to talk to the victim, Shy becomes the center of unwanted attention.  When tragedy strikes - repeatedly, Shy proves to be a resourceful hero.  The ending is somewhat open-ended.  Is a sequel in the works?
