The Abduction / Jonathan Holt / 458 pages

Wow!  This book has it all...a conspiracy dating to World War II which involves the Vatican and a Pope, murder, kidnapping, torture (or not), American military and intelligence presence overseas, American treatment of prisoners of war, romance...   A Venetian police captain leaps at the chance to investigate the kidnapping of a US Army officer's daughter.  She has become a persona non grata after she filed a sexual harassment claim against her boss, her former lover.  She teams up with Holly Boland, a second lieutenant who is Family Liaison, and Danielle Barbo, the webmaster who created Carnivia, the online site that was hacked to send videos of the kidnapped girl, her torture, and the group's message.  As they race against time, they discover a plot dating back to World War II and continuing in real time.  This book is most informative and the historical note at the back indicates that it is not merely a figment of the author's imagination.
