Worth the Drive/Mara Jacobs/304 pgs.
This is the second in the Mara Jacobs' Copper Country, Michigan series. Katie Lipton, childhood friend of Lizzie Hampton (Worth the Weight), and known in town as "the pretty one," has just been "dumped" by her husband of 13 years, Ron. If that isn't bad enough, Ron has gotten a former student of his, Amber, pregnant, and plans on "being there" for her. This is especially devastating to Katie, since she and Ron had unsuccessfully tried to have a child for years. Months later, Lizzie talks Katie into going with her to Texas to a professional golf tournament--Lizzie wants to sign one of the golfers for her company to represent. Enter Dario Luna--a professional golfer who won his first major, the British Open at the age of 22. He is now in his thirties, and still on the golf circuit. He and Katie meet, and there is immediate attraction. As the result of a one night stand, Katie discovers she is pregnant. She wants Dario to forfeit all rights to the child, but that doesn't go over well--Dario never knew his father, and has no intention of his child being labeled a "bastard." The resolution to this "dilemma" is interesting and entertaining--even Ron isn't quite the jerk the reader is lead to believe. Another enjoyable read in this series.
