It all started with an e-mail. Evangeline, a super bight seventh grader, complained to the administration and all the teachers that too much emphasis was placed on sports. Somehow this catapulted KT and her brother, Max...and Evangeline into an alternate reality where sports were the regular curriculum and academics became the much lauded extracurriculars. KT was an Olympic-bound superstar softball player. She blacked out in the middle of pitching a crucial tournament. Max's trophies have replaced hers and she is relegated to observer at his math competitions. Could KT have conjured up this horrible world herself? Can KT and Max get back to the real world? Does KT really want to? Wow!! Margaret Peterson Haddix can really write. If you've missed most of her books because you were reading her Missing series, be sure you go back and read all the the others...too good to miss!!!
"School is really supposed to get kids ready to be adults, with adult jobs. What kids learned in school needed to be more important than the games they played outside it."
"Sloppy thinking can lead to all sorts of disasters and tragedies."
"Working hard and believing in yourself could win out over odds and evidence."
