Break My Heart 1000 Times / Daniel Waters / 342 pages

"The ghosts don't signify anything.  They're just like short movie loops played on the wall."  "What do we signify?"   "Just by existing, probably nothing...But we have potential.  A ghost doesn't have potential.  It's just there."  They were approaching the sixth anniversary of the event.  At least two million lives were lost, including Veronica's father, and bringing thousands of ghosts - individuals reappearing repeatedly at precise moments of their lives.  Veronica has also begun to have a teenage boy ghost appear in her bathroom recently.  Ghostly appearances appear to be escalating, terrifying Veronica's friend, Janine.  Are these ghosts just images, or are they real?  One of the ghosts Veronica encounters every morning is Mary.  Mary was only 16 when she was brutally strangled.  She appears on Mr. Bittner's doorstep.  There were rumors that he killed her, but the history teacher was cleared of the crime.  Was he guilty?  Is he a serial killer?  Scarifying!!

"There was no running away from life or death."

"So much of our history - collective, individual, personal - is unknown."

"The existence of afterlife implied design.  It implied heaven and hell, and it implied some sort of purpose, divine or otherwise, woven into the fabric of everyday life."

"Libraries, schools, and theaters - places most likely to be haunted.  Maybe it has to do with what these places represent.  Doorways to other worlds.  Places to open your mind."

"Isn't caring for the living the best thing you can do for the dead?"

"The strength of memory often fails the living."
