Adele is a girl with an amazing gift, although it is unwanted baggage according to her grandfather. Adele, like her mom and grandmother before her, have the ability to see and talk to the dead. Until recently when she forgot to take her medicine, Adele’s abilities have been suppressed by medication.
One day, thanks to the fact that she is no longer in elementary school, the bus that Adele rides to school drops her at a place where she has to walk through a city park alone. That doesn’t bother her too much until she sees a former friend, Tori, off in a wooded area of the park. The two girls were best friends when they were younger, but things changed as they got older. And even worse, Adele kissed Tori’s boyfriend at Tori’s party Saturday night. As Adele approaches Tori, who is frantically calling Adele to come to where she sits, can’t understand why Tori would want to talk. Adele soon realizes that Tori is dead and that it is her spirit that is talking to her. She also realizes that the supernatural gift long buried under the medication haze has returned without her meds. Tori tells Adele that she doesn’t remember anything from the party after a point because she was drinking a lot and doesn’t even know that she is dead. Adele sees evidence that Tori was murdered when she notices ligature marks on Tori’s neck.
Adele and Tori’s spirits work together to solve the mystery of the murder and it nearly costs Adele her life. Definitely a book worth reading.
