This story follows the life of Josephine Rimaldi, who is 14 years old when the book starts. Born and raised in Italy, she is forced to marry at 14 and five years later moves to America. The book looks at seven decades of her life and follows her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. During her marriage she has an affair and secretly gives up a child, a decision that eats her up. Throughout her life she constantly thinks about this lost child and at one point starts a search.
The book has many points of view, switching from Josephine to her kids and their kids. It's a raw and captivating story with lots of heartbreak and humor. I felt like the story flowed well and really captured the changing decades.
