Pray for Silence / Linda Castillo / 304 pages

An entire Amish family has been murdered and two of the daughters tortured.  Painters Mill Police Chief Kate Burkholder and her small force have few clues, no motive, and no suspects.  State Agent John Tomasetti, who is on suspension due to irregularities in a past drug screen, arrives to assist.  He and Kate have an on-again-off-again relationship and Kate has shared her personal horrors with him.  When Kate discovers a diary written by one of the teenage daughters, she uncovers shocking secrets, a torrid double life, and multiple suspects.  As always, Castillo has crafted a thriller to keep the reader engaged and actively wondering throughout.
