The Quilted Heart / Mona Hodgson / 356 pages

This Christian romance novel is three novellas in one.  It is set just after the Civil War and is also set in St. Charles County.  The author seems to have researched just enough to drop street names and locations and perhaps some facts (ie:  Lindenwood school for girls).
She did this also in a book about Cripple Creek, Colorado.
Three young women are the main characters.  Maren, an immigrant from Denmark, is going blind and was abandoned by her fiancée.  She stays with a widow in St. Charles county and, of course, meets someone.  Woman #2, Emilie, attends Lindenwood School for Girls and meets someone as well.  Woman #3, Caroline, is a war widow and is not with someone by the end of the book although there are strong hints.  The story just ends and the reader is left waiting for a continuation in the next book where many of the characters will leave on a wagon train for the West.
The book is fair, but a good choice for bedtime as it is not riveting so that you can't sleep, but interesting enough to keep reading the books.
