Thousand Words / Jennifer Brwon / 284 pages / 7 Swans a Swimming December Challenge

"It was okay to want to be desired.  Every one did right?"  Ashleigh Maynard Coats and Kaleb met on the cross country team, became an item, and were inseparable.  Now a graduated senior, Kaleb insists that he needs to spend time with his baseball buddies before he leaves for college.  When this is the reason he misses the biggest party of the year, Vonnie's pool party, Ash follows snarky Rachel's somewhat dubious advice that she should send him a nude picture of herself to show him what he is missing.  Since she was drunk, her reasoning was befuddled and her inhibitions significantly impaired.  The shot goes viral and the repercussions are legion.  With the help of a friend, Mack, in Teens Talking, Ashleigh realizes that her mistake, or other's reaction to it, do not define her.  This is an excellent cautionary tale warning against the danger of potential social media abuse.

"You can get past a mistake, but it's much harder to get past being a cruel person."
"A picture is worth a thousand words, but it doesn't tell the whole story."

"Sending nude photos of minors is distribution of child pornography."
