Icons / Margaret Stohl / 428 pages / 2 Turtle Doves December Challenge

The aliens have landed...and they are called The Lords.  Devastation accompanied their arrival and Los Angeles is now called The Hole.  The Lords dropped thirteen icons in various cities.  The icons regulated everything with electrical impulses, including people.  Doloria was a baby when the Lords arrived.  She has several gray freckles which set her apart from others.  A padre took Doloria to his mission after the deaths of her parents and she grew up there with her best friend Ro (who also has those freckles).  The mission is raided, the padre is killed, and Doloria and Ro are kidnapped.  The Lords, through their ambassadors have expressed a desire to see them.  Rebel sympathizers are also interested.  There are two additional teenagers with the unique marks and one is the ambassador's son.  Whom should Doloria and Ro trust?  What can they possibly hope to accomplish in the messed up world?  This first in a series is a creative twist on earth's dystopian future with compelling notes from an esteemed doctor on The Humanity Project and a secret/traded journal.
