Heroes are My Weakness/Susan Elizabeth Phillips/367 pgs.

Annie Hewitt is down on her luck. She's recuperating from an illness; her mother passed away leaving Annie with large debts, but also telling her that her "legacy" awaits her at the cottage on Peregrine Island. Annie arrives on the island in the midst of a winter snow storm. Annie needs to stay on the island 60(?) days or else she loses the cottage. In addition, Annie meets up with author Theo Harp, who betrayed her in her teenage years. Did I mention that Annie is a ventriloquist and has internal conversations with her puppets? Some readers might find this creepy, but I thought it quite funny! Anyway, someone wants Annie off of the island, sparks fly between Annie and Theo, and it all results in a happy ending. This book received mixed reviews on Amazon, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are flawed characters, humor, and a touch of mystery. Recommended!
