Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer / Katie Alender / 292 pages / April Challenge Rain

Neither the title nor the cover could have enticed me to read this book, but because it is a potential preliminary Truman Award nominee I gave it a go.  I would highly recommend this one for your upper middle grade collection.  Colette Iselin is going to France with her French class from a prestigious private school.  She is on scholarship because her parents have divorced and her father has moved to New York.  Her two best friends are wealthy, cliquey snobs.  When they would rather shop or sleep than see the sites of Paris, Colette sets off on her own accompanied by Jules, the tour guide.  Colette keeps seeing an apparition of a lady in a pink dress - Marie Antoinette.  Paris is being stalked by a serial killer.  What connection exists between the victims?  Is Marie Antoinette related in some way?  Colette's fascination with France, her determination to set things right, and her realization of the composition of friends and family make this one too good to miss.
