Jack Reacher is sent on a secret mission to a small Mississippi town, host to a ranger military base. The base houses a unit that rotates to Kosovo, secretly, in a one-month-here-one-month-there ratio. Jack is not to investigate the town but merely be a liaison with local police. The base is on lock down and several individuals who approach are gunned down. Jack discovers that there were previous murders as well. Who is behind the mayhem and who is involved in the cover up?
