Meet Josefina, an American Girl / Valerie Tripp / 74 pages / First Book in a Series

Josefina Montoya is a nine year old Hispanic growing up in New Mexico in 1824.  Her mother died a year ago and her father has become silent and withdrawn.  Her sisters are frequently quarreling.  Josefina looks forward to the arrival of her grandfather who frequently makes the thousand mile trek from Sante Fe to Mexico City where he trades for goods from all over the world.  Abuelito brings back Tia Dolores and her piano.  Can a piano, or a person, change your life?  This American Girl book lacked the excellent "Looking Back" section found in most "first books" in the American Girl series.
