This is the first title of the Grant County series that I have read - missed the first one and I am not sure whether or not I like it yet. This story was very hard to get into at first - it is very dark. A young girl is shot by the police chief when she pulls a gun on a former boyfriend and when a dead baby is found in the ladies restroom, everyone thinks that the baby was hers and that she had killed it. When the autopsy is done by the local medical examiner who is also the girl's doctor, they findout that she was not and had been a victim of self -mutilation. The chief is having problem with the fact that he killed the girl and his deputy is still trying to recover from trauma she sustained in a previous attack. Story deals with child pornography among other difficult subjects.
