Bury Your Dead / Louise Penny / 371 pages

A Chief Inspector Gamache novel

Murder has been perpetrated in the library of the Literary and Historical Society in Quebec.  The victim is Augustin Renaud, a man searching for the body of Champlain, the founder of Quebec, in 1608.  Chief Inspector Gamache is asked by one of the librarians to help with the investigation.  He is reluctant because Quebec is out of his jurisdiction and he is in Quebec to recover from a previous "incident" which has left physical and emotional scars.  He has also requested that a colleague reinvestigate a closed case.  Great suspense and great interweaving of 3 separate plot lines make this novel an intriguing read.

"The real reason for murder is fear.  Fear of losing what you have or not getting what you want."
"Four sentences that lead to wisdom. I'm sorry.  I was wrong.  I need help.  I don't know."
"...Before laptops and blackberries and all the other tools that mistook information for knowledge."
"...And libraries.  Calm.  Quiet.  A harbor from the turmoil of teenage life.  The power that came from having information, knowledge, thoughts, and a calm place to collect them."
