My Crazy Beautiful Life / Kesha / 192 pages

In honor of Kesha's 32nd birthday as well as the start of Women's History Month, I thought I'd start off with this autobiography.

The autobiography begins with Kesha at the Galapagos Islands, with only a notebook and a pen.  As she stares out at the ocean, she writes the first word that comes to mind: Warrior.

She goes into some detail with her early life; her mother and older brother were the main inspirations for her when it came to music and songwriting, but plenty of rock musicians between the 1960s and the 1980s helped too.  Working her way to achieve her dream, she had to move from Nashville to LA and work many side-jobs before getting an uncredited appearance in Flo Rida's "Right Round", and even later making her big hit "Tik Tok".  She  calls back to her most memorable tours, from Manchester to Budapest to Rio, closing with the Galapagos Islands and the many thanks to her friends, family, and fans.

I've had some mixed views with this book;  I loved the photography (her brother Lagan did a good job with a lot of them).  However, this book was published in 2012, prior to her admiting that her producer then was a corrupt and horrible person to her, so I was REALLY unnerved by the only-positive bits she writes about him. 

Personally, I'm just glad she left that studio and has improved overall as a result.

Everyday/Volk, Leonard/164 pages

      This is a beautiful collection of photography by Leonard Volk.  Some of the photos are simple portraits, others complicated scenery, some in color, others black and white.  Many of the shots are from Europe, some historical, some classical--but all gorgeous.  My favorites are the close-ups of things like rust on a door or a multi-colored tree stump.  The text that accompanies the photos is brief and helps identify what you are looking at and where it was found.  Beautiful collection!

FIND MOMO: My Dog is Hiding in This Book. Can You Find Him? / Andrew Knapp / 140 Pages

This dog can hide! Take a look at Knapp's delightful photo essay, reminiscent of the Where's Waldo picture books for children. The photographs are primarily locations in Ontario (Canada) and the North Eastern United States, with a few set in Illinois.

Maddie on Things - A Super Serious Project About Dogs and Physics/Theron Humphrey/159 pgs

Okay this is not your usual book - it is basically a book of pictures but the pictures are pretty amazing.  The author decides to take a road trip thru the country and takes his dog - Maddie - with him.  One day he decides to take a picture of his truck - to remember later - and puts Maddie on the truck.  And she stays there.  So now he is taking pictures of Maddie everywhere on rocks, in wheel wells, on mailboxes.  Some of them leave you wondering how he did it.  There isn't a back story to most of the pictures - he wants to leave you wondering but he does write about a few of them.  It won't take long to read but it is worth looking at the pictures.
