Grumpy Jake/ Melissa Blue/ 104 pgs

To be honest, the titular Grumpy Jake is not all that grumpy. However this is still a cute story. Jake is a single dad to a kindergartner, Jayden. Bailey is Jayden's new teacher and she's more than a bit wary of Jake, who has a reputation of sleeping around with his son's preschool teachers. This is a bit icky, but it's not really a huge part of the book. Jake and Bailey end up trapped in an elevator for an afternoon, get to know each other, and end up casually dating. Which leads to much, much more. A short, fun read.

The Sport of Baronets/ Theresa Romain / 100 pgs

This is a novella that kicks off a new series about horse racing in Regency England. I like horses but racing, not so much. However, I like Romain's writing so I dove in. This book was far too short for me to believe in the romance. Ostensibly the two main characters have known each other all their lives, but I didn't get the impression they knew each other all that well as adults so when they went from first kiss to home run in the space of a few pages, it threw me for a loop. I liked both characters, but there just weren't enough pages for me to invest in their relationship.

Snatched: a novella/Karin Slaughter/79 pgs.

This novella was originally published only as an e-book. Since then, it has been included at the end of some of Karin Slaughter's newest novel, Criminal. Will Trent, an agent for the Georgia Bureau  of Investigation, has been relegated to the unsavory task of monitoring "inappropriate" behavior in the men's room at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. In this role, Will becomes suspicious when a man brings his "daughter" into the restroom, and something doesn't quite "jive" with the way he is treating her.  Once this turns into a case of child abduction, the novella takes off, taking the reader on a fast, tense, ride. I really enjoyed it!
