In the fourth Survivor's Club Novel series where six men and 1 woman, all bearing wounds from the Napoleonic Wars, forge a true and deep friendship during their recoveries at Penderris Hall. This is the story of Flavian, Viscount Ponsoby, whose fiancee turned to another, when he came home suffering with a disabling head injury leaving him seemingly violent when his speech was non-existant. Now that her husband has died, everyone wants to reconnect the two now that Flavian is vastly improved and able to speak. And speak he does to widow Agnes Keeping, asking for her hand in marriage. Only a Promise / Mary Balogh 394 p.
Balogh presents the 5th in the Survivors' Club series. Ralph Stockwood just barely survived the Napoleonic Wars. His three friends did not. This haunts him as he was a leader when they were in school. As the only heir to his family's title, he must, however, find a wife so as to have a heir. When his grandmother's guest, spinster Chloe Muirhead, makes him a marriage offer, he decides to accept. They strike a bargain, he to get a wife and family and she gets a promise that he will never take her to London. She had two seasons in London that ended in disaster. Through no fault of her own, the ton has made her a social outcast. So when circumstances change after their marriage, Ralph feels compelled to change his promise.

Proposal / Mary Balogh 365 p.
At last the story of Lady Gwendoline Muir is told. Lady Gwen has known her share of tragedy from the death of her husband and of her unborn child. When her gimpy leg gives out on the beach, a survivor of the Napoleonic Wars, Lord Hugo Trentham carries her back to home. They agree that they don't suit. He is of the business world, he won his title during the war; and she is of the Regency society. He is rather gruff and taciturn while she is light and full of laughter. With the sponsoring of his sister into society, Lady Gwen is drawn into Lord Hugo realm as he is into hers. As each shares their individual nightmares, an attraction very slow grows between them. This is the first in the Survivor series. This series explores the trauma of war and its effects on the survivors, both men and women with emotional and physical issues. I look forward to the next in the series.
