ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
The "Book Challenge" began as the brainchild of two creative librarians, Patrick Wall and Christa Van Herreweghe, from the University City Public Library. Participants in the challenge competed against one another throughout the year for fame and glory amongst their coworkers. However, in 2011, the U City Library threw down the gauntlet and challenged other library districts throughout Missouri to compete. As a voracious bunch of bookworms, we naturally took them on!First and foremost, the SCCCLD Book Challenge is a competitive reading challenge. The purpose is to read and share our gems with each other to boost our reader's advisory skills and promote healthy camaraderie in the District. In a nutshell, to play, participants must READ a book (yes, audio books count, picture books do not), then POST a short summary of it to the blog. Participants will compete for most books read, pages read, and participation (bonus) points for monthly prizes. Our monthly stats will go up against other Missouri library districts as well and the overall winners for the year will be announced each September on the Missouri Book Challenge blog for all of the library world to see. The winning library district gets bragging rights and an actual trophy for an entire year!
