Julia and Brian Crowne are the parents of five year old Anna who is missing when Julia is late picking her up from school. The chapters are told from the point of view of the abductor and Julia. After one week Anna turns up unharmed. The book does a great job describing the emotions of the parents and the fall out as a result of Anna's disappearance and reappearance.
